COMPETITION BYE-LAWS
2024
1. DRESS
For all competitions up to and including the semi-finals, dress will comprise registered club colours or club shirts and regulation greys below the waist. For the finals of all competitions dress will comprise registered club colours or club shirts and regulation whites below the waist.
Gazette Cup – Dress will comprise registered club colours or club shirts and regulation greys below the waist to be worn for all rounds up to and including the quarter finals. For the semi-finals and finals dress will comprise registered club colours or registered club shirts and regulation whites below the waist.
Dress for friendly games will comprise NHWBA shirts and regulation whites below the waist.
At all one-day competition games, including Kathleen McFauld Pairs, Dolly Anstey Two Wood, Champion of Champions, dress will comprise registered club colours or club shirts and regulation white below the waist.
Below the waist garments will comprise of skirt, two pleats at the front, and two at the back, length just below the knee, tailored full length trousers, tailored cropped trousers or tailored shorts all of opaque material. No jeans or jeggings.
All members of the teams shall wear the same colour above and/or below the waist.
2. SMOKING
Smoking, including Electronic Cigarettes, by a player is NOT permitted on the green or while the game is in progress.
3. ENTRANCE FEES FOR COMPETITIONS
These will be decided annually by the committee for presentation at the Annual General Meeting and will appear on the competition forms issued by the Competition Secretary.
4. ENTRIES
Entries must be sent or handed in by the Secretaries of the affiliated Clubs with the name, e-mail address, and telephone numbers, if any, of all competitors to the Competition Secretary on or before the Spring Council Meeting. The correct entry fee must accompany the entry form. Entries received after this date will not be entered into the draw.
5. DRAW
The Draw for the competitions shall be organised by the Competition Secretary and be made in the presence of the President or in her absence the Vice President and Committee and Association Members. The Competition Secretary shall circulate copies to all club secretaries.
6. GREEN FEES
Collection of all Green Fees for competitions are to be the responsibility of the Competition Secretary.
7. ONE-DAY COMPETITIONS
a. Dolly Anstey Two-Wood Singles Competition
The game shall consist of 15 ends, 2 bowls each player. To be played on a knockout basis. In the even years to be played mid-week and on odd years on a Saturday.
The Dolly Anstey Two-Wood Singles final will be played on Finals Day.
b. McFauld Pairs
The game shall consist of 12 ends, four bowls each player. To be played on a knockout basis. This competition will be played on alternating days each year, i.e. Saturday or a weekday when scheduling allows. The games to be played on the Vice-President’s green whenever possible; one other green to be nominated should the increase in the number of entries deem it necessary.
The McFauld pairs final will be played on Finals Day.
c. Champion of Champions (Diana Morgan Trophy)
The game shall consist of 21 shots, four bowls each player. To be on a knockout basis, at weekends to enable workers to participate. The Game to be played on the green of the President whenever possible. All rounds including the semi-final (if possible) to be played on Champion of Champions Day and the Final to be played on Finals Day.
d. The Competition Secretary be given authority for her to request the greens for the “one day” competitions.
8. GAZETTE CUP
The game shall consist of 18 ends, three triples, three bowls each player. Each affiliated club may nominate one team. The team may be altered from round to round. In the event of a tie after eighteen ends, the Captains prior to the start of the game shall toss and the winner shall have the right to decide which team shall play first. All three triples shall play an extra end or ends until a decision is reached. The Gazette Cup Semi-Finals and Final shall be played on one day on the President’s green whenever possible on a day selected at the beginning of the season; should the President’s green be unavailable a neutral green will be arranged by the Competition Secretary. For all rounds of the Gazette Cup an umpire shall be in attendance. Such umpire to be a qualified Umpire or an Officer or Committee member of the Club where the game is played or an Officer or Committee Member of the Association.
9. COMPETITIONS
a. Singles Championship
The game shall consist of 21 shots, four bowls per player. Each affiliated Club may nominate any number of players. Singles semi-finals and final to have a neutral marker.
b. Pairs Championship
The game shall consist of 18 ends, four bowls each player. In the case of a tie an extra end must be played. Each affiliated Club may nominate any number of pairs.
c. Triples Championship
The game shall consist of 18 ends, three bowls each player. In the case of a tie an extra end must be played. Each affiliated Club may nominate any number of triples.
d. Fours Championship
The game shall consist of 18 ends, two bowls each player. In the case of a tie an extra end must be played. Each affiliated Club may nominate any number of fours.
10. MANAGEMENT OF COMPETITIONS
a. For all rounds
- The first named in the draw shall be the Challenger. The Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours will be played on fixed dates each notified by the Competition Secretary. If a preliminary round is necessary, this also to be played on a fixed date. The Challenger will contact her opponent and the time of play be arranged by mutual agreement. The Competition Secretary to be the arbiter if necessary. If neither the Challenger nor her opponent send or notify the result or claim the tie within two days of completion of the round, the Competition Secretary must strike both names from the competition. Should the Bowls England National Championships (Leamington Fortnight) and any other Bowls Hampshire dates coincide with those dates used for North Hampshire Women’s Bowling Association competitions, any Competitors and Officials involved with these commitments should be permitted to play their competitions on a re-arranged date at the discretion of the Competition Secretary.
- Where there is a fixed date for a competition round, the tie may, by mutual agreement, be played before that fixed date. The Competition Secretary must then be notified immediately by the player/s requesting the change. This does not include Semi-Finals, Finals and One Day Competitions (Champion of Champions, Dolly Anstey 2 Wood Singles and Kathleen McFauld Pairs).
- The Competition Secretary will schedule competitions in conjunction with the Bowls Hampshire competition calendar.
b. Time of play
(i) During Season
That all competition rounds played up to 15th August be arranged to commence no later than 6 pm.
(ii) End of Season
That all competition rounds played after 15th August to be arranged to commence no later than 5.30 pm.
c. Substitution
(i) In the Pairs, Triples and Fours, the players taking part in the first games of the respective competition shall constitute ‘the team’ for the remainder of the competition.
- Any player included in the original entry but not taking part shall not play in any other entry in that particular competition.
- One additional – and the same player – may be used as a substitute at any time providing she has not played or been included in any other entry in the same competition.
- A substitute may play in any position (other than substitutes under the World Bowls Laws of the Sport of Bowls Crystal Mark Edition).
d. Semi-Finals and Finals for Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours
The Semi-Finals are to be played on days selected at the beginning of the season at a venue which will be decided by the Competition Secretary. On Semi-Finals Day if any Player is involved in more than two competitions the time to be extended to more than one day. For the Semi-Finals of NHWBA Competitions an Umpire shall be in attendance, such Umpire to be a qualified Umpire or an Officer or Committee member of the club where the games are played or an Officer or Committee Member of the Association.
The Finals shall be played on the President’s green, on days selected at the beginning of the season. On Finals Day if any Player is involved in more than two competitions the time to be extended to more than one day.
The final of the Four Wood Singles, Champion of Champions and Dolly Anstey Competitions will be marked by a neutral marker.
e. Weather Mats
Weather Mats should not be used for North Hants Competitions; if it is considered that they are necessary then the green should be deemed unplayable.
